SEASONAL CHARM

Although purchased as a winter ski chalet, this site has an incredible backdrop of ever changing natural beauty. With opportunities for cycling and hiking through the summer, the client has found that they now enjoy the chalet year round. Since the property is a weekend retreat and used for extensive entertaining, large patios were required for guests and lounging. In order to frame the stunning views of the distant Blue Mountains natural stone guillotined retaining walls were created to formalize the patio courtyard area. These courtyard walls double as seating to allow larger gatherings on the patio without cluttering the space with additional chairs. Square cut pavers add a contemporary edge to the courtyard layout. A natural stone bridge separates the two patio spaces allowing for smaller intimate groups to gather and chat. This separation of spaces also adds considerable drama to the extensive night lighting which allows for gatherings to continue on late into the evening. The night lighting brings a whole new dimension to this space and greatly extends the usability of the outdoor patios.
